Kat Von D rarely disappoints and the brand’s newest palette release is no exception. The vinyl record themed palette features 24 eyeshadow shades in the most rainbow color scheme possible and is available exclusively through Sephora. Keep reading for my initial thoughts and tons of pictures!
Looking at all the preview pictures for this item, I *knew* it would be mine the second it was available for purchase. This limited edition palette is shaped like a vinyl record and includes a selection of 24 shades inspired by the original, limited edition ‘Mi Vida Loca’ palette released a few years ago.
Kat does crazy colors best so I was confident that the palette wouldn’t disappoint and I was correct. Out of 24 shades, about 20 were pretty pigmented with just one swipe. I found that the nude shades in the inner circle were a little chalkier than the rest of the shades. But I didn’t buy the palette for the nudes, so this wasn’t a deal breaker for me. Noble, Moulder, and Nox were the most difficult to swatch for me out of the nudes. Every swatch in the gallery below represents just one swipe of my finger expect for Nox which was so difficult that I had to build it up with three swipes. I wasn’t crazy about Destroyer or Fran either. You can see in the swatches that the shadow transfer to my skin wasn’t that great to begin with and that the color tapered off towards the end of the swatch.
If any of you are on the fence about this palette (especially considering the price, $59) I would suggest you take a good look at your existing colorful shadow collection and see what dupes you already have. If you haven’t ventured into the world of colorful shadows and are looking for a less-expensive alternative for experimentation purposes, I would definitely recommend the Morphe Brushes 35B Shadow Palette. I’ve posted a photo to my Instagram showing dupes for nine of the ‘Mi Vida Loca Remix’ shades in the 35B palette. The 35B palette is $19.99 (get even more $$ off using one of the discount codes floating around Instagram, my favorite is ‘DUPETHAT’) for 35 shades and you play until you are comfortable with colors so you don’t feel guilty about “wasting” any of the ‘Mi Vida Loca Remix’ shades.
With that said, I think that the Kat Von D ‘Mi Vida Loca Remix’ is a fabulous piece of art! If you don’t want to use it, buy it and display it! it is definitely collector’s item worthy. But I would definitely suggest using it and enjoying it as I will be for many months to come.

Part of me is sad I didn’t buy it, but I know that I wouldn’t know what to do with all those lovely colors1]!
