ColourPop Cosmetics is launching their Holiday 2018 collection November 15, 2018 at 10am PST at www.colourpop.com.
You guyyyyysss! I died when this showed up at my door.I was BLESSED to be able to preview this collection early – and I didn’t just drool over it by myself, I invited a few friends over to help me dig into this humongous , 47-piece collection.
Fresh off the heels of my makeup soiree, I’ll share our first impressions to help you get your shopping list together for the launch. First things first, we weren’t fans of the hair and body glitters. Loved the fact that the glitter was more of a creamy mix (a la Lemonhead), but not much use for glitter in the day to day. I could see myself pulling these out for one of the thousand music festivals Austin hosts in any given year, but no immediate use for them now. Secondly, I swatched the items I was most excited about – pressed eyeshadow palette, super shock shadows, lippie stix, liquid lipsticks and glosses. I was intrigued by the Jelly Much shadow formula, but I’m going to save those swatches for natural light so I’ll share my pictures over the weekend if I can get outside to get swatches in sunlight.
This pressed eye palette ($20) is gorgeous! Everyone loved this and a few of my friends kidnapped it and hid in the bathroom to play with the shadows in depth. I was really impressed with the mattes here and I’m typically very picky about matte shadow performance. I’m going to need about 100 backups of my new favorite eyeshadow shade “Realness”. Check out that insane pigmention in the pic! other standouts are “Keep Cool”, “Lucid”, “Bring IT”, “On One” and “Eclipse”.
My love for the original Lippie Stix lipstick ($5 each or $25 for all six in the “Dream Baby Dream” kit) has come back full force after swatching these. As an OG ColourPop fan, I have many of the original Lippie Stix shades that have just been chilling in my lipstick drawer getting no love. “Skywalking” and “Infinite Best” (both Matte X) were the ones that really got my heart beating.
Again, OG ColourPop fans who have dozens of Super Shock shadows ($5 each or $25 for all six in the “Double Rainbow” kit) will love this set of six new shades. “Milky Way” reminds me of “Wild Thoughts” (one of my favorite shades) so I’m happy to see that that shimmer magenta is still in rotation. We tried “REM” on about three different people and it looked GREAT on everyone. On my skin it looks a little more blue, but on some of my fairer friends, it pulled purple. Love a good shade shifting shadow! Also, I am and will continue to be a sucker for penny coppers so “ZZZ” is just an automatic YES for me.
The highlighter palette ($8 each or $18 for all four in “Dream Sequence” palette) is a brand new product from ColourPop. Previously, the Super Shock cheek shades were only sold individually in the white, round plastic packaging with the screw tops. Looks like ColourPop is looking to expand how Super Shock products are packaged. I really liked having four shades in a palette, but these shades weren’t so complementary to my skin tone, but would look nice on other skintones. If you are a fan of the Anastasia Beverly Hills “Dream” or “Nicole Guerriero” highlighter palettes (chunkier glitter in super metallic shades) you will LOVE these four shades at a much lower price point.
The swatches of the liquid lips ($6 each or $80 for all 14 in “Flying Colours” vault) really speak for themselves! I mean …. *swoon*! The mix of Ultra Matte Lip, Ultra Glossy Lip, Ultra Metallic Lip and Ultra Satin Lip in a GORGEOUS pastel, metallic, and shimmer color palette is unexpected for holiday, but it works. We tried layering the UGLs over some of the UMatteLs and UMetallicLs and they make stunning combos when you want your lips to be the topic of conversation. I think “Nimbus” was the most universally flattering shade of the entire collection. Everyone tried it on and loved it! On my skintone, layering “Hyno Tease” over it was a show stopper. “Hypno Tease” by itself was also beautiful. For my fairer friends, I would try “Dust2Dust” or “Paper Moon” depending if you have a golden (“Dust2Dust”) or pink (“Paper Moon”) undertone. Also, “Round Midnight” was a hit as a great every day gloss for lighter skintones.
Overall, unexpectedly loved this collection and there were so many great items! If I could pick my top five favorites, I would say (in no particular order), “Hypno Tease” Ultra Glossy Lip, “ZZZ” Super Shock shadow, “Skywalking” Matte X lippie stix, “La La Land” Ultra Matte Lip” and the “Chasing Rainbows” pressed eyeshadow palette. I would purchase those in a heartbeat.
