This is first Huda Beauty purchase (gasps!). I know I am LATE to the party, but I absolutely could not ignore the primary color eyeshadow palettes that launched the second half of 2018. With color palettes based on precious stones, they are perfect for monochromatic eyeshadow lovers like me! During the Semi-Annual VIB sale last November I picked up the Emerald Obsession palette that screams MONEY lounder than Cardi B.
At $27, the Obsessions palettes are an excellent price point for cost conscious beauty lovers as the larger 18 shade Huda Beauty eye palettes all retail for $65. This is a great way to experience Huda Beauty’s amazing metallic eye formula at a fraction of the price.
As my first purchase from the brand, I had no idea what I was in for before I swatched this palette. But I am a converted Huda Beauty lover after I dug my fingers into the buttery metallic shades. My only gripe was that the six shimmer and metallic shades are very powdery and I got a ton of fallout. In fact, I suggest using your finger to apply the shades to your eyelid. I found the formula stuck much better to the natural oils on clean fingers than it did on the three eye brushes I tried before giving up on brushes all together.
My favorite shades have to be the two deep green shimmers in the middle row and the rusty bronze shimmer in the bottom row. I’m a sucker for true jewel tones and the emerald green shimmer in the smack middle of the palette is to die for. I used it in the look below layered under ColourPop’s Jelly Much ‘Into Focus’ in the middle of my eyelid.
I highly recommend this palette if you are just as obsessed with monochromatic color schemes and appreciate multiple shades of the same color. This palette doesn’t have the transition or base shades usually included in palettes so you will need to supplement those from your own collection. That doesn’t bother me because I own enough transition shades to get me through the next 80 years. The biggest compliment I can give is that I will purchase more Huda Precious Stones palettes based off my experience with the Emerald palette. Expect reviews of the Sapphire, Ruby and Amethyst palettes throughout 2019.
